Request for Proposals to Host 2017 MBA for Working Professionals Conference

The MBA for Working Professionals, an affinity group of AACSB-International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, is seeking proposals from business schools to host its 24th annual conference in October 2017.

Proposals should contain a rough program outline, including suggested content, agenda and venue choices, as well as information on any aspects of your school that make it particularly appropriate for hosting the 2017 conference. It also should include a draft budget with expected room and airfare rates from various areas of the country to the proposed venue.

The deadline to submit a proposal is Sept. 30, 2016. Proposals should be submitted to Ray Whittington, dean of the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business, DePaul University, at rwhittin@depaul.edu.

About the Conference

The MBA for Working Professionals Conference typically begins with a welcome reception on the evening before sessions begin. Sessions are usually offered sequentially in one room (although some hosts have done break-out sessions) for one full day followed by a half day.

Conference content usually focuses on issues of interest to senior business college administrators, including market conditions, admissions outcomes and forecasts, program innovations and career management issues.

Conference Target Audience

Hosts should plan for between 80 and 100 participants. Director level and above attendees are preferred, but those in significant roles below the director level may attend, especially in cases where no one else from the school is attending.  The goal is to attract business school decision-makers to the conference.

Participation Fee 

Conference hosts may charge each attendee a $200 participation fee to help off-set the cost of hosting the conference. The host school should offer a cut-off date for refunds in order to keep no-show numbers down. Schools hoping to increase the fee to offset costs must include a justification with the proposed higher fee and explain how this fee will be used to add value to the conference.

Conference Size

Two rounds of registration should be offered, with the first limiting participation to no more than two participants per school. During the second round, additional participants should be added from a waiting list. The exact timing of the rounds is left to the host, but the second round should happen in time for potential participants to get reasonable airfare.
